
About me
I am a microbiologist and rice scientist based at Universitas Padjadjaran, Indonesia, and Coordinator of the SRI Global Research Network, an international collaborative alliance dedicated to the rapid worldwide dissemination of system of rice intensification (SRI) practices, knowledge, and innovations.
I completed my postdoctoral training at the Institute of Biological Sciences, University of Malaya. I received my master's and Ph.D. degrees from the National University of Malaysia. Throughout my career, I have held research and teaching appointments at institutions in Indonesia, Malaysia, and the United States, including Cornell University, the University of Malaya, and Universitas Padjadjaran.
My work has evolved from investigating the molecular mechanisms underlying plant–microbe interactions and rice diseases to coordinating international research networks that connect scientists, extension practitioners, policymakers, and farmers across more than 50 countries.
Alongside conducting research and teaching in soil microbiology, plant pathology, and plant-microbe interactions, I have secured competitive research funding, coordinated multinational collaborations, developed regional and global research initiatives, and translated scientific discoveries into practical solutions that advance sustainable rice production, climate-resilient farming systems, and global food security.

Plant–microbe interactions
Exploring the molecular and ecological mechanisms through which beneficial microorganisms enhance plant growth, nutrition, stress tolerance, and disease resistance.
Trichoderma biology and applications
Investigating the diversity, genomics, secondary metabolism, and multifunctional applications of Trichoderma in plant growth promotion, biological control, bioremediation, and sustainable agriculture.
System of Rice Intensification (SRI)
Conducting interdisciplinary research to improve rice productivity, resource-use efficiency, and climate resilience through SRI-based management practices.
Phytopathology
Studying plant pathogens and host defense mechanisms to develop sustainable approaches for disease management.
Bioremediation
Developing microbial-based solutions for the remediation of contaminated soils and water, including heavy metal and organic pollutant removal.
Biofuel production
Investigating microbial metabolism and biomass-derived feedstocks for the development of sustainable bioenergy technologies.
